Elemental Perios

“What if there was a video game that was just as fun, but actually taught children something worthwhile?”

Enter the magical world of Perios. In this world, a Perio is a character much like a Pokemonâ„¢ and there are many different types — 118 to be exact. That’s because each Perio stands for a different element of the Periodic Table of Elements. Every unique Perio comes with unique characteristics, mirroring those of actual chemical elements. The more a child learns about their favorite Perio, the more they learn about chemistry.

Overview

Do you know a kid with a bunch of facts from their favorite video game floating around their head? What if that useless information could be replaced with something a little more educational? Enter Elemental Perios, a multi-level quest video game for kids ages 8-13. This video game subtly teaches kids the basic concepts of chemistry without them even realizing. So when they finally walk into a high school chemistry class, they’ll easily recall what they learned from their favorite characters.

About Elemental Perios & Its Team

Hi, we’re the Elemental Perios team. We’re led by Stuart Miller, a father who was fascinated by the amount of useless information his children retained about video game characters in their brains. He asked himself, “What if there was a video game that was just as fun, but actually taught children something worthwhile?”

Since Stuart first wondered how his kids could better use their brains, the Perios team developed three apps and mobile games and launched Perios themed interactive learning exhibits at Utica Children’s Museum.

Now, his children are all grown up and the Perios world is growing up too.

We are excited for our continued development of the newest and most ambitious Perios game yet: Elemental Perios. This multi-level quest game will remind children of Halo and Pokemon combined. As the Elemental Explorer (the main character) discovers this new and beautiful universe, it can catch Perios, utilize their unique characteristics, or combine them with others to create useful reactions.

Instead of storing useless facts about made up characters, players will gain a foundational knowledge of chemistry that they can bring with them to their first high school chemistry class. The trick is making the game so fun, they don’t even realize it’s educational. We like to call this phenomenon “accidental learning”.

To bring the game to life, Stuart Miller teamed up with Forge Modern, a creative technology consulting firm in Los Angeles led by Elias Clark. Clark is Forge Modern’s Creative Developer with a Masters in Animation and New Media and a passion for developing engaging educational experiences. So far, Forge Modern’s team has done an incredible job building out the first level of the game.

Our expert game testers have played that first level and the reviews are in: Elemental Perios is a game kids will love and parents will encourage them to play!

The Impact

Children are spending more and more time in front of a screen these days. The Elemental Perios team wants to make this time more productive by creating educational and entertaining games. Instead of video games void of any tangible or useful information, we can create games with an impact.

Our team also believes in making science and learning accessible to all children. Not every student’s family can afford early education tutors or summer science camps. With your help, Elemental Perios can give more children a jumpstart on learning. All they (or their school) need is an internet connection and a computer.
